Manor Motorsport came into existence in 1990 when former single-seater champion John Booth decided

the time had come to hang up his racing gloves.

But his competitive spirit and passion for motorsport continued to be as strong as ever…so the sensible

choice seemed to be for John to run his own team.

Manor attained success almost instantly and in the team’s first season, it achieved three race victories.

From there, the stage was set for Manor Motorsport to become one of the very best teams in national

and international motor racing, alongside being renowned as the most successful Formula Renault team

  in Europe.

Over the years the list of drivers Manor has guided to championship success in Formula Renault reads

like a veritable who’s who of modern-day motor racing greats, including the likes of 2007 Formula One

World Champion Kimi Raikkonen, 2007 F1 World Championship runner-up Lewis Hamilton, former F1

racer Antonio Pizzonia and Le Mans 24 Hours winner Guy Smith.

Having spent a brief three-year period contesting Formula Ford at home and abroad alongside its Formula Renault commitments, John Booth decided in 1999 to progress into Formula 3.

The impact was both huge and instantaneous, with British sensation Marc Hynes taking five victories en route to the 1999 British F3 title and also claiming victory in that year’s prestigious Marlboro Masters race at Zandvoort. In 2005, the team defeated all-comers from the best Formula 3 championships on the globe by winning the 52nd Macau F3 Grand Prix with Brazilian, Lucas di Grassi.

In 2007, Manor Motorsport underwent something of an evolution with long-standing Formula

Renault UK team manager Tony Shaw purchasing that side of the operation from John Booth.

While the Manor Motorsport name continues in the realms of the Formula 3 Euroseries under the

ownership and direction of Booth from the team’s premises in Dinnington, the Formula Renault UK

squad now runs from a base in New Ollerton, Nottinghamshire, under the banner Manor Competition.
